Christmas gifts for twenty-somethings: present ideas that are more inspiring than toiletries

Christmas gifts for twenty-somethings: present ideas that are more inspiring than toiletries

Hiya, relatives. Us twenty-somethings have a message for you: we know Christmas shopping is tough but please, no more soap sets!

If you are looking for amazing gift ideas then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve compiled my favourite fashion-forward, weird and wonderful, and even life-changing gifts that are perfect for ambitious and stylish twenty-somethings.

While big retailers are trying to push you ‘Millennial Monopoly’ and overpriced rose gold jewellery, these are gifts that are truly unique. Most of the products are from small businesses and independent brands, so you’ll be giving the makers a Christmas present with your purchase too.

Fashion-forward pieces

Blogger Twenty-Something City in Shein Christmas sequin jumper

It’s not Christmas without some bold knitwear, but for the stylish twenty-something in your life how about one of these non-garish festive jumpers? My Joanie Clothing ‘golden girl’ jumper is an absolute favourite of mine, and the stylish twenty-something in your life will love it too. If your giftee is obsessed with all things sparkly (like me) then some sequin knitwear is a must-have. You’ll find sparkles all over the High Street right now, but a few of my favourites include this Shein sequin sleeve sweatshirt (use code alicec15 for 15% off).

Buying clothes for someone as a gift can be risky, which is why opting for accessories can be a safer bet. Od’s Designer Clothing includes some seriously covet-worthy pieces, from brands such as Hugo Boss, Vivienne Westwood and Dsquared clothing. As the streetwear trend refuses to go anywhere, how about a Men’s Dsquared cap for a versatile, four-seasons gift?

For the sophisticated lady in your life, I am obsessed with Rosamund of Scotland’s stunning printed scarfs, available at the Scottish Design Exchange. My favourite is the Kelpies Scarf because of its Scottish heritage (please, Santa).

Completely unique jewellery

Ethereal Wonders handmade crystal gemstone necklace

#sorrynotsorry for the shameless plug here, but my sister’s jewellery shop Ethereal Wonders is simply amazing! These gorgeous, handmade genuine gemstone and crystal jewellery are total must-haves for the boho chic or indie queen in your life. Each piece is individual so you know you’ll be gifting something completely unique.

If you are looking for more boho-inspired shiny things then Honeysweet Jewellery offers a gorgeous capsule collection of limited edition and vintage rings, earrings and necklaces. The ‘feminist’ necklace and rose ring are my top picks.

Gin… and more gin

I Love Gin monthly subscription Christmas gift idea

What could be better than a bottle of gin? Why, a year’s subscription of gin, of course! I Love Gin offers a range of gin subscriptions and letterbox gifts. With the monthly subscription, each box contains two featured gin miniatures and flavour matched tonics, as well as a perfect serve guide and a £5 off coupon for a full-sized bottle. You can gift your loved one 12 months of gin for £154 (that’s less than £13 a month), and there’s also the option to gift six months or three months too. I’ve just received my first I Love Gin Box and I can promise you there are few things better in life than a G&T through the post.

In case you missed it, gin is having a moment right now. Tangled Vine offers a range of delectable gin-scented candles in upcycled gin bottles, including Hendricks, Edinburgh Gin, Brockmans and Sipsmith. I also love upcycled gin bottle lamps, which you’ll find plenty of on eBay and Etsy.

Gifts fit for a glamour queen

I remember when a sparkly eyeliner from 17 at Boots and a three pack of earrings from Claire’s Accessories were perfectly acceptable stocking fillers, but these days luxurious make-up and accessories that are totally #instaworthy are in high demand. But let’s not spend a fortune here. If a Tiffany & Co jewellery set isn’t doable, then the delectable Tiffany perfume is a real treat. The bottle and packaging is so elegant, it’s perfect for any Insta-queen!

When it comes to make-up palettes, why spend £40 when you can spend £4?! I am in  love with this glittery eye cream palette from Primark. The shades have some decent sparkle which is a great gift just in time for New Year’s Eve.

Life-changing experiences

Live True careers guidance Christmas gift idea

What most twenty-somethings would like most for Christmas is their dream job, and while you probably can’t give them that (unless you have a magic wand) Live True’s Work Wonderland career coaching is a really cool gift idea. The online platform is designed to help people realise their dream job, and provides actionable steps to achieve it as well as tailored careers guidance. Your recipient will receive an activation card and information sheet in a cute gift box, so you’ll be able to leave a physical present under the tree with this virtual coaching.

I’ve written before about my life-changing experience with a personal trainer, and I think this would make a great Christmas present. If your loved one is based in Edinburgh, I’d definitely recommend working with James from The Body Development Coach.

For something truly once in a lifetime, Deep Sea World offer shark dives that would make an amazing gift. Your recipient will get to meet the aquarium’s seven Sand Tiger sharks, and all training is provided so even diving novices can take part.

Mental health and mindfulness

Mindful magazine subscription Christmas gift idea

Sometimes us twenty-somethings need a little extra help to step back and take the time to look after ourselves and our mental health. A subscription to Happiful magazine is a brilliant way to encourage the recipient to enjoy some ‘me’ time. Happiful are currently offering a Christmas discount, with six months for £15 + p&p (RRP £24 + p&p) – use code HAPPIXMAS to claim the deal.

THC oil is having a moment right now, and Zing Organics Cannabis candle provides a perfectly legal way to enjoy the relaxing effects of this substance. Who doesn’t love candles?!

Combining two of my favourite things, fashion and mental health support, This Mum Thing’s range of slogan sweaters include a £2.50 donation from every sale to mental health charity MIND. The designs fall into ‘naughty’ and ‘nice’ categories, with slogans such as: “I don’t want to adult today” and “don’t be a twatbag” – can you guess which is naughty and which is nice?

Weird and wonderful

Pizza Eaters rainy day adult activity colouring book Christmas gift idea

Animal adoptions have long been a Christmas present favourite, but this year you can gift an adoption with a difference. Unicorn Adoptions offers a Magical Unicorn Adoption pack, which includes a donation to Stonewall, Alder Hay Children’s Charity and Community Integrated Care. As well as adoptions, there is a range of unicorn gifts available for the most fabulous person in your life. The same company also offer mermaid and dragon adoptions. Awesome.

Firebox’s personalised items are absolute madness and I love them. Why not get your face printed on a giant cushion for your loved one? Or on some car air fresheners? Because the best gift you can give is yourself, innit.

Pizza Eater’s Rainy Day Activity Books are just awesome! They have all your TV favourites from Buffy, to The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Peep Show. These would make the ideal stocking filler to enjoy whilst waiting for Christmas dinner.

I hope you all enjoy the run down to the big day, and that you manage to beat the Christmas Eve shopping rush! And remember: never spend more than you can afford on gifts.
