How fashion is making me better

How fashion is making me better

I wanted to start off by saying thank you for all the positive feedback on my last blog post, about living with depression. I’m overwhelmed by your kindness and support.

If stage one of coping with depression and anxiety is finally accepting it, then stage two is identifying the things that make you feel happy. Granted, this can feel like an impossible task when you’re feeling down. Sometimes it’s more about remembering the things that did make you happy so you can work towards feeling that same joy again.

It’s no secret that I love clothes. My colourful looks are probably what brought you to my blog in the first place. I’ve found it difficult that lately I’ve struggled to throw on more than a pair of sweatpants, but slowly I’m starting to rediscover my love of fashion.

Getting dressed up makes me feel good. Self care can be the most difficult thing when you have depression, but it really does help. It might take me a bit longer than before to get up and get ready but it’s important I keep doing it.

Knowing I have fun outfits I want to show off is a great motivator. Even better is when the look is equally comfy and colourful – something that requires minimum effort but still looks great!

A statement jacket is the ultimate instant outfit generator. A piece like this jazzy, Aztec-inspired cropped jacket from Shein speaks all for itself. For this look I’ve played on the colours within the print itself to build the rest of my outfit, from my teal trousers to yellow earrings and pink lipstick. More is more!

If you’re not as obsessed with colour as I am (why not, guuurl?) then a statement jacket like this is perfect to jazz up jeans and a t shirt, or even to add some life to your workwear wardrobe.

Talking of workwear wardrobes, my day-to-day uniform right now comprises of a good quality t shirt and some tailored trousers or high-waist jeans. As much as I love putting together adventurous looks, sometimes I need something formulaic that I know I can throw on and go.

Fortunately, spring’s High Street offering is full of gorgeous separates that can be easily teamed together and will see you through many years to come.

The photos on this shoot, like many of my posts, were taken around the Northern Quarter of Manchester. I think this is a good opportunity to tell you my big news – I’m moving back to Edinburgh!

I’ll have more on that soon, but in the meantime keep smiling,

I was gifted the jacket in this post. However, all views are my own.
