A new year is a time for new beginnings, but also a time for positive thinking and self care. I’m going to use a mindfulness diary for 2018, which is something I never thought I’d say. I used to think these things were all airy fairy forced joy nonsense, but after getting a Happiness Planner I’ve realised there’s actually a lot of benefits to this style of journal.
So what is a mindfulness diary exactly? Well, it depends which one you go for, but essentially it’s a journal that encourages you to not only plan what you’re doing, but why you’re doing it and how it makes you feel. Some are more diary-like, while others are solely for reflection.
I think by writing things out. Making lists helps manage my anxiety and keep up with my busy schedule. Seriously, I have a list for everything, blog posts included!
I had scoped out a couple of mindfulness diaries but the Happiness Planner is by far the most comprehensive I’ve come across and best suited to my needs. I have space for my daily to-do list, meal plan, exercise schedule and appointments. It’s a Type A personality’s dream.
‘How is that different from a usual diary?’ I hear you ask. Well, the thing with my Happiness Planner, and other mindfulness diaries, is that instead of just listing the days of the year, there’s space to reflect on what you’ve done each day, week or month.
I’m terrible for focusing so much on my goals for the future that I don’t take time to think about all the things I achieve day-to-day. But as my main goal for 2018 is to focus more on the now, I’m excited to use my new diary to appreciate all my attainments, no matter how small.
Having things to look forward to is so important. Using a diary with both weekly and daily pages will remind me how much I have going on, and what’s on the horizon.
I have three diaries this year- one is for work, which is a small day-by-day planner for all my meetings etc to pop in my handbag. Another is so I can keep an overview of upcoming blog posts, and when I’m creating content for them. But my Happiness Planner is just for me.
I’ve scoured the web to find some of the best mindfulness diaries for 2018. Whether your goal is to improve your fitness, climb the career ladder, or take more time to reflect on yourself, I highly recommend treating yourself to a planner of some kind.
Just think – come January 2019 you’ll be able to look back at all you’ve achieved over the previous 12 months!
