My favourite part of the festive season is planning my party outfits. There are just so many opportunities to get dressed up – work nights out, family gatherings and special nights with friends to name a few- but the pièce de résistance for me has to be New Year’s Eve, or Hogmanay as it’s known in Scotland.
I’ve already shared a few festive outfit ideas, from this colourful showstopper from Cari’s Closet, to this classy look from Pretty Little Thing. However, I’ll always have a place in my heart for sequins, especially if they are green. #mermaid4life
Shein asked me to put together a wishlist, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share some inspiration for the perfect party dress this New Year’s Eve.
Dress: Shein (choker wasn’t included): £21.17; Bag: Kate Spade
New Year’s Eve is a time for every girl to sparkle – literally! Over the years I’ve always been partial to sequins for the festive season, with my other favourite being tartan. But I know not everyone wants to wear the bold looks I enjoy.
Therefore, I’ve split my picks into three Categories. First is ‘classic festive‘ – we’re talking Christmassy shades, classy cuts and sumptuous fabric. Then we have ‘on trend‘, for those fashionistas out there. Finally, if you’re going all out (why not at this time of year?) then I’ve lined up my favourite ‘showstoppers‘.
Velvet is my absolute favourite fabric for this time of year! Not only does it look and feel oppulent, but it will keep you cosy. The thick fabric is also great for hiding any lumps and bumps. The burgundy shade of these two velvet dresses is so festive and can be paired with gold or silver accessories. Win win!
The green dress in the middle makes me think of old Christmas movies and I absolutely love it! If you’re after a really classy look this New Year’s Eve then pin-up style dresses look amazing. I’d team this one with some Hollywood waves and a box clutch bag.
In case you haven’t noticed (where have you been?!) pearl embellishment is big this season. This is a trend that I love, and it’s perfect for the festive season. Keep it subtle with sleeve detailing like on the red dress, or go full out with the black velvet dress in the middle. Both will look gorgeous on the dance floor this New Year’s Eve!
Another trend that has been big in 2017 is T-shirt dresses. This casual style has had a festive update with some rose gold sequins. I love the versatility of this piece. It could be glammed up with an Ariana-style ponytail and some thigh-high heeled boots. For the more casual dressers amongst you, I think this dress would look great with some high-tops and a bomber jacket.
This is the category I really love- the showstoppers! If you tend to shy away from maxi dresses then I challenge you to try one. I always thought I was too short to wear a maxi dress but in fact they can be great to make little legs look longer – just be sure to team with some sky scraper heels.
The fabrics of these dresses is what really makes them showstoppers. We’ve got sequins, satin and velvet – all my favourite things for this time of year! These three dresses also show off a subtle amount of skin. The sequin dress is backless, while the waterfall front of the burgundy dress and the thigh split of the green dress are perfect for show off your favourite heels.
What category will you fall into this New Year’s Eve?
I was gifted the dress in this post. However, all views are my own.
