Boots and berets: exploring Manchester street style

It’s now been almost two months since I moved to Manchester. It’s not been my favourite period in my life due to all the job stress, but I do love this city nonetheless!

One of my favourite part of moving to a new place is exploring new places to take outfit photos. I’ve found that a little tricky in Manchester so far. Instagram opportunities don’t seem to present themselves as freely as in London. However, I’ve since found two new favourites: The Gay Village and St Peter’s Square.

The Gay Village is the first place in Manchester I really got to explore thoroughly, when I came to the city for Pride. I had the best time and everyone was so welcoming. Exploring The Village definitely helped me decide I’d made the right decision to uproot my entire life (again).

Given my knowledge of Manchester as a whole is still limited, I knew my beloved (and central!) Canal Street wouldn’t let me down for some outfit photos.

Further along the Gay District is Bloom Street. This is where I really had Pride flashbacks! God, what I’d give for a couple of £3 double G+Ts right now…

When I sent these photos to my mum, her first comment was: “it looks like you’re in Coronation Street”. And she’s right. I love all the red brick architecture in Manchester. Apart from the fact that it does remind me of watching Corrie as a kid, the colours are totes ideal for autumn outfit photos.

Talking of autumn outfits, I have to share my new favourite hat with you. I’m not ashamed to say I styled this whole look around this burgundy beret from Primark I picked up recently. Now I’m not really a hat person: I’ve got a big head and my hair never wants to play ball (sigh). Buuuut this one just works, not least because it matches my favourite boots perfectly.

Hats are a big deal right now. I mean, they always are in autumn/winter, but recently every single blogger seems to be rocking a baker boy or a beret. Major props have to go to this hat for staying on during Storm Brian!

Another Manchester location I’ve fallen in love with for outfit photos is St. Peter’s Square. For anyone unfamiliar with Manchester, this area has the beautiful classic architecture of Central Library on one side, with glass-fronted, contemporary offices on the other. This area is a favourite of Manchester bloggers – no surprises there!

You might recognise this location from my recent post featuring my Pretty Little Thing wishlist. I love that even though I was in the same place, the photos look different. Yay for versatile Instagram locations!
