I used to have a bit of a phobia of black. I mean, I didn’t run away screaming at the sight or anything, but I certainly didn’t have it in my wardrobe.
Black to me was for school and funerals only. But recently I’ve begun to really appreciate how pulled together and indie-chic this darkest of all the shades can be. Viva black!
I honestly never thought I’d wear an all black look like this as part of my everyday wardrobe and love it so much. But there is just something so sophisticated (and high fashion, daaarling!) about layering together the same colour in different textures.
And this look is all about texture. This incredible chunky faux fur coat with its massive shawl collar has been a wardrobe hero of mine since last winter. One look I’ve been totally obsessed with for ever now is a fur/ leather combo, and I’ve built the outfit around this.
How brilliant are these trousers from Missguided?!?! After some terrifying circulation issues from wearing my other biker trousers (I’ll tell you about it once I’m less traumatised), I wanted a leather-look pair that were fitted but not skin tight, and they absolutely had to be high-waisted. Not easy to find! I couldn’t believe it when I stumbled upon these 90s vintage-inspired ones, and the best thing is they are from the petite range too!
The secret star of this look, however, has to be this fabulous tasselled bodysuit by Boohoo. The tassels go right round the shoulders, neckline and back, and make me feel like a real rock babe. I’m looking forward to tucking this fab top into sequin shorts with sky scraper heels for the Christmas party season.
Now the key to pulling off an all black look must surely be the accessories. Usually I’d be inclined to go for a pillar box red lip whilst wearing this coat, but to keep true to my outfit’s gothic roots I opted for a deep purple lipstick. Sadly the photos do not do it justice- this was an intense, royal purple shade and a real show stopper!
I am also a massive fan of anything silver right now, and I knew this necklace was the perfect finishing touch. I felt like a proper 90s Wicca girl (the cast of Buffy eat your hearts out!)
Go on- break your own fashion rules!
