Last week offered the merest glimpse of summer and I, like the rest of Scotland (taps aff!), took the rare opportunity to whip out some of my summer wardrobe.
Since we seem to have been stuck in a murky post-winter gloom all year, I’d felt like I’d forgotten what summer dressing is all about. But thankfully I had a few bright and breezy pieces ready in my wardrobe that nail 4 summer dressing trends in one. Curious? Read on!

The flares are back, baby!
Yep, for 2016 flares aren’t going anywhere. I do love my orange wide legged trousers, but I never know how to wear them. However, they are the perfect light and colourful summer trousers that can be dressed up or down. I love that the stripes in this top by Nobody’s Child (stripes are another top summer trend) coordinate perfectly and create an instantly pulled together outfit.
Bare those shoulders, gals.
One of spring/ summer’s biggest trends is the cold shoulder. There’s just something so sexy I think about showing off this area of your body. It can be really slimming too- after all, who ever heard of having fat shoulders? For a summery, bohemian vibe, a Bardot-type top like this is perfect. But if off the shoulder isn’t your thing (or the bra situation is too tricky!), then cut out shoulder detailing is an instant winner.
Rock those novelty glasses!
2016 is the year of kitsch. I’ve never been a fan of playful or novelty fashion, but these sunglasses were a surprise winner for me. For a runway-inspired spring/summer look (turn to Gucci for inspiration) bold sunglasses, quirky handbags and novelty jewellery provide a cheeky new season update.
Here’s to more sunny days,
