Shine On: Sequins are for life, not just for Christmas

Shine On: Sequins are for life, not just for Christmas

I love the Christmas party season. Come December 1, I’m instantly on the hunt for anything that sparkles, stocking up like an ASOS-clad magpie. But after all the parties are over (all three of them, let’s be honest here) I’m left with a wardrobe of sparkles and no reason to wear them.

So what’s a gal to do? Why, keep shimmering of course! I think a mantra of ‘be more sparkly’ is a New Year’s resolution we can all get behind.

Daytime

I was instantly obsessed with this bling thing. Part jacket, part cardigan, this is a great glam daytime cover up that comfortably fits under a coat. And unlike lots of sequiny things, it’s not scratchy or uncomfortable in the slightest.

I always struggle to find knitwear I like in winter. But a cosy, comfy sequin number? That I can get behind.

Sequin tops are amazing all year round. Pair them with your favourite jeans and you have an instant going out outfit (going out-fit? Are we feeling that one?)

This deco-inspired one from River Island has long been my favourite. A good beaded top should be fairly weighty and hang well from your frame. This cami ticks all the boxes. I’ll admit finds like this on the High Street for a decent price are rare, but I highly recommend trying your local vintage shop. The only thing about the 80s I like is the sparkles.

Of course, one of the easiest ways to inject a bit of sparkle all year round into your outfit is with statement accessories. Silver tones are great in spring, while gold will look equally cool in summer as it does in winter.
