Maximise Your Assets: You’re never too short for a maxi dress

In my mid teens, I was of the firm belief that any dress longer than just below my butt was too long. I loved to show off my legs and- at a teeny 5’2″- I thought the only way to do this was to wear the shortest hemlines possible. Not so.

The fact is, short girls can wear maxi lengths- you just have to be clever about how you do it.

Dress: Pretty Little Thing; Boots: Zara

Here’s my top tips for rocking a full-length look on a petite frame-

Dare to bare
A dress that covers from neck to wrist to ankle will drown a tiny body. So to enhance your little curves, look for skin-flashing details, such as the thigh split on this Pretty Little Thing number. If you’re busty, experiment with split-to-the-navel necklines, or for something different, look for backless or cut-out detailing.

Add height
This is one of those looks where ballet flats may not be your best friend. Adding a pair of heels under a long hem will create the illusion that your legs go on for days. Plus, it will save on alteration costs. For a less formal option, I’ve teamed my maxi with heeled boots instead of stilettos. I’ve also added a subtle bit of height with my hair for extra oomph.

Just go for it
Maxi dresses are a glamorous, timeless and elegant alternative to your standard party dress. Look for luxury fabrics, ornate prints or beautiful embellishment for a dress that really wows. For a daytime look, look for comfy materials and throw over a biker jacket for subtle cool.

Keep maximising those assets,
